The smile on John Morrish’s face said it all as he sat at a packed table in Corianders Restaurant. Our club is in great heart. We have enthusiastic members of all ages this year, and lots of them. It is a very exciting time.
Not only do we have record numbers of juniors and seniors showing up every week to play badminton at the awesome new Lincoln Events Centre, we had close to forty people at our meal out on June 10th.
Corianders in Rolleston were awesome. Initially we told them there would be about 16 people going. That quickly increased to 25… then 33… and finally to 37. They rearranged things to fit us in without complaint. (We did feel a bit sorry for the table of four who ended up in our very noisy room on the night!)
We opted for the Gold Banquet. A range of entrees arrived and were eagerly sampled. Onion bhaji, samosas, spicy chicken and lamb with a selection of sauces were brought out. They were all delicious and didn’t stay on the tables long!
What made the evening especially enjoyable was the number of families who came along. Having junior members, siblings and parents there made for a lovely family atmosphere.
We let the Corianders staff decide which main courses would come out for our banquet. They picked out a nice selection of curry styles which went very well with the naan breads and rice. Washed down with imported Kingfisher beer they are particularly excellent!
Surprisingly, the junior table spent much of the evening chatting rather than texting each other.
In previous years we have all changed seats between courses. With forty of us packed into the side room at Corianders, musical chairs wasn’t attempted!
Thanks heaps to Corianders for being such excellent hosts, and thank you to everyone at the club who came along and made it such a great night out.
